Sidrith Imladrith
the penitent assassin
Sidrith Imladrith is an elf, a meikal, from a very influent family of silk production, as her uncle is the imperial tailor. Their family emblem is a silver silk moth on a leaf green background. She was promised to the emperor’s third son since her 8th year, despite being a meikal, to the great jealousy of multiple elfalen families. That, Sidrith could not bear; denying all the protocol teaching, she acted feral all her youth, and if her parents were very disappointed, they were not able, out of love, to force her more than scolding and trying to make her sit, they couldn’t go as far as punish her and force her like a lot of traditional family does. Instead, a bargain was made. More mature and docile, her little sister, Azaïa, accepted to take the burden. If in her youth, Sidrith, too egocentric and free-minded, had not thought much about the real consequences of this pact, she got struck with realisation the day of the marriage.
Not only she suffered herself from it, as the imperial family was very angered, to the point of wishing for a public punishment, but Sidrith also realized what pain and burden she dropped on her sister’s shoulders. She wanted her sister to hate her, to reject her, it would help Sidrith accept her fault and her punishment. But no… Azaïa loved Sidrith the way she was. The deal were on Azaïa’s consent. This killed Sidrith, a smile, without pardon, without blame, pure unconditional love. Sidrith became mute, and bargained her punishment to be the Shinaï. Sidrith became an imperial assassin, disappeared, officially dead. For ten years she did that, veiled, invisible, assassinating peoples for the imperial family, and forbidden from any social contacts. But she grew tired of it. She felt more and more guilt. Listening to the discourse of the anti-imperials she had to kill, she slowly got into it, yet, not enough to join the rebellion, not without condemning both herself and them.
She obtained a chance to evade her destiny, as a mission was given to her on Meridian borders, to spy a delegation. She unveiled herself and fled. Fled afar, hoping she could cross the border before the other Shinaï got the order to kill her. She barely made it, she was cunning, faster, and strategist, and got a little help too. Unbeknownst to her, her sister knew she would do it and asked some helps from a Shamio mystic, a friend of her, to use mysticism and yokai to give Sidrith an advantage in the deep forest. She also let a gift for Sidrith, a letter of farewell and a katana, with a name engraved on the sheath in Karaï and Elfalen “the eternal mourning night”, clever message from Azaïa. “You are no longer A shinaï, may you turn in the art of the elfal blade. I love you, my dear defunct sister.”. Alas, in her escape, she got attacked and survived, but with a hard loss: her glyph tattoo got severely burnt with magic attack, and would not be able to use it any more. Until the event of the nightmare returns, when Yloriem restored it, a debt forever.
Now a mix-class of samurai assassin, she wandered Meridia, doing small jobs, mostly escort, here and there, until she gets introduced the worst way possible to an ork monk by the name of Marakh. As she was following a thief target from afar, she crossed the way of a merchandise transport, and, hiding in the bushes, she ended up found out by Marakh who was part of the escort, who thought she was the thief. That’s how they ended up together, in a passive-aggressive hate-love friendship. Sidrith accepted to become an official guild mercenary, and the sensational duo was born, thus according her A Meridian citizenship.
Would it be origami, haïku, tea or zen gardening, Sidrith is far from being a fan of it, she finds origami frustratingly difficult, and haiku painfully boring, but she compulsively did it because it is her sister’s favourite hobbies. Doing things her sister loves, even if she herself is not really into it, is a way for her to feel her sister’s presence. Marakh is so aware of her unspoken story that he often bought paper for her, and knowing how Sidrith hates those kinds of sweet acts, he always pretend to have bought it for his contracts and own affairs. They turned out living together as a sort of couple, Asexual, nearly aromantic, they just live together for the sake of it. They got “married” by Helana, or, should I be exact, our so renowned wind just pointed them out from the sky and declared them married before blasting off above the streets while Sidrith pursued her, yelling all sort of elven insults. Some will remember her as a hero, as a friend, but most forgot who she was and what she did for the world. And that’s fine for her.
Sidrith lost an eye to a ghoul as she fought the lapis Nomine’s army. She received an eyepatch from her sister, hand-made with silk of her family’s farm. Since her departure from Oriaka, Sidrith hadn’t left without souvenirs: she always wears a fine green silk cloak with the silver-embroidered family symbol on it, and a nacre brooch in her hair, totally getting off with the Shinaï black clothes she wears. Sidrith admitted that the brooch was once owned by Azaïa, a birthday gift Sidrith had bought. Azaïa gave it back when she moved to the imperial quarters, inside the capital, after her marriage. She was slim when she was a fugitive... living on an all-meat orc diet took its toll on her figure. That's why she became a bounty hunter. To make the most of her elven inability to digest fat.
